Is there an Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment for Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis (OA), also called degenerative arthritis, refers to a form of arthritis that results in the destruction and eventual loss cartilage at one or more joints. Primary osteoarthritis is a condition in which osteoarthritis has no known cause. Most cases of osteoarthritis are due to age and are not caused by any known cause. This is caused by a loss of cartilage protein as a result of aging. This eventually leads to joint degeneration. Secondary osteoarthritis can also be caused by other conditions, such as obesity, repeated trauma to the joints, surgery to the joints, congenital anomalies, diabetes, gout, and other hormonal disorders. This condition is most commonly seen in the hands, feet and spine. It can also affect large weight bearing joints like the hips and knees.

Ayurveda

Ayurvedic treatment for osteoarthritis aims to reduce the symptoms and slow down the basic pathology. Triphala-Guggulu and Yograj-Guggulu are used to reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness. For local application, medicated oils such as Vishgarbha oil and Mahanarayan oil can be used on the affected joints. The medicated steam fomentation of affected areas with decoctions such as Dashmool Qadha or Nirgundi Qadha is then performed. This is known as Naadi-Sweda and can be very helpful in reducing the swelling and pain of the affected joints. To stop or slow down the progression of the disease, it is necessary to repair the damaged cartilage in the weight bearing joints.

For this purpose, medicines such as Trayodashang–Guggulu and Panch-Tikta–Ghrut–Guggulu are used. To have a positive therapeutic effect, these medicines must be administered for a long time, sometimes up to two year. Patients who are not able to respond to these medicines are offered medicated enemas. This medicine is made up of milk that has been boiled with several medicines. This enema can be repeated for several months. It is important that you treat obesity and other conditions related to osteoarthritis. A walking stick can be used to ease pain in mild to moderate osteoarthritis patients. Regular activities such as swimming, walking, and yoga can help reduce stiffness and pain in the joints.

Proper Diet

Doctors are now more concerned about diet because there is increasing evidence that nutrition plays a role in arthritis, especially rheumatoid. Research has shown that changing the way you eat can reduce symptoms. Although you may not be able cure rheumatoid by changing your diet, it can help reduce pain, stiffness, and improve grip. Some people can reduce their drug use by changing their diet. Some people are not able to benefit from a change in their diet. Many people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis aren’t eating a healthy diet.

The journal found that only 6 percent of sufferers consume the recommended daily intake of selenium to help prevent arthritis. Only 23% eat enough calcium to support strong bones. Balanced Diet

Many people suffering from arthritis can reduce their symptoms by making healthy dietary changes and taking medication. It has been proven that certain herbs such as ginger, an anti-inflammatory herb, and parsley, a rich source of calcium, can be used to treat arthritis.
