How to identify early Gout Symptoms?

Gout is a condition that occurs when the body is overloaded with uric acids. This disease is on the rise. Gout is a serious and debilitating condition that can be prevented. Gout is preventable if you know the causes and how to treat it. Gout, also known as the “rich man’s disease”, is one of the most common conditions that has been recorded in history. This disorder is estimated to affect approximately 5 million Americans. It is more common in men, and usually occurs after puberty. It is more common in women after menopause.

Uric Acid

It is a progressive condition that can cause uric acid deposits in tissues, especially around the joints, and a decrease in kidney function. Gout is caused by hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia, or an increase in uric acids and gout can be caused by many factors. Gout can be caused by eating too much meat, seafood, alcohol, sweetened drinks with fructose, and other foods. Gout can also be a hereditary condition, affecting approximately 60% of patients with gout.

Gout can also be caused by certain medical conditions, such as metabolic syndrome, hemoglobin disorders and lymphoma. Aspirin, diuretics and medications for tuberculosis, niacin and cyclosporine, are all known to increase the likelihood of developing gout.

Good To Know

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of gout is key to diagnosing it. The uric acid levels rise in the blood during the asymptomatic stage. However, there are no symptoms of gout. The acute stage lasts about five to ten consecutive days. You may feel sudden pain in your joints, usually in your knees, elbows or ankles. You will feel the joints hot and tender. These affected joints may also appear bruised and swollen.

These gout symptoms will disappear within two weeks even if you don’t get treatment. The inter-critical stage is between the first and the second attack. The second attack will occur in six months to two years, but for some people it will take five to ten years. The chronic stage will occur if you don’t get proper treatment. The chronic stage will bring on worsening gout symptoms and persistent joint pains. You will also find uric acid deposits in cartilage and between the tendons, soft tissue and bones. The skin around these uric acids deposits will develop white pustules, which can lead to sores.

Symptoms

Gout symptoms include joint stiffness, limited range of motion and joint stiffness. Gout treatment is possible and should be started as soon as a diagnosis has been made. Gout treatment has two main goals. They aim to stop the inflammation of the joints and prevent further attacks.

You will need to change your lifestyle, such as avoiding alcohol and maintaining a healthy weight. Also, make sure you get enough fluids. Avoid foods high in purine, such as organ meats or shellfish. You will also receive medications to relieve pain and stop inflammation of the joints during acute attacks. Gout treatment is possible, but prevention is better than cure. You can prevent gout from happening.
