Are there Salt that Heals and Salt that Kills?

Many people are confused about salt. Your doctor and other health professionals will tell you to reduce your salt intake to lower your risk of hypertension and stroke. Many holistic doctors and gourmet chefs believe salt is good for you, and essential for your life. According to the American Medical Association (AMA), and the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Americans consume a greater amount of sodium than the recommended daily intake of 500 to 2,000 mgs. These high levels, in a form that is not friendly to the body and without ancillary minerals, can lead to serious health issues. The sodium referred to by the AMA/CSPI is the sodium found in table sodium.

Holistic Salt

There are many differences between holistic salt and table salt. Table Salt- is poison. It has nothing to do with natural holistic salt. The same process is used to refine table salt as white sugar, white flour, and white rice. Table Salt is chemically cleaned and refined before being dried at more than 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Excessive heat can alter the salt’s natural chemical structure, leading to a host of health problems. After processing, the salt remains at 97.5% sodium chloride with 2.5% chemicals like moisture absorbents and toxic iodine. Your table salt may also contain dangerous preservatives that are not required to be listed on its packaging.

To improve the pouring ability of table salt, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate are often added. Aluminum is a light alloy which can build up in your brain and could be a cause of Alzheimer’s. Sodium chloride, a chemical form of salt that is not natural, is something your body will recognize as foreign. This salt is found in nearly every preserved/processed food you eat. Americans eat a lot processed food. The majority of food that Americans purchase is processed food.

Salted Foods

Your body absorbs more salt when you add salt to already salted foods. Table salt is a poisonous food and can be harmful to your health. Your body must give up enormous amounts of energy in order to process table salt crystals. Your fluid balance is disrupted by sodium chloride from table salt, which can cause problems for your health. Your body must surround sodium chloride molecules to break them down into sodium and chloride ions. To neutralize the unnatural sodium chlorineide, water must be taken from your cells. This causes cells to become dehydrated and can lead to premature death. Your body uses twenty-three times as much cell water to neutralize sodium chloride for every gram it cannot get rid of. This is a serious problem that is pervasive.

The average person consumes between 4,000 and 6,000 mg of sodium chlorine each day. Heavy users can consume as high as 10,000 mg. Why hasn’t FDA banned chemical processing of table salt? Or set salt limits for processed foods? 1978- The CSPI urged FDA to set salt limits in 1978. 1982- The FDA promised to act in 1982 if the food industry did not reduce sodium levels. According to CSPI, Americans have increased their sodium intake, not decreased since 1982. The agency has done nothing. 2003- The Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure, or JNC7, called for a 50% reduction in sodium intake in 2003. This was a target that CSPI urged FDA for. 2005-After 25 years of false starts and footdragging by the Food and Drug Administration, the CSPI sued FDA to regulate salt.

Let’s see…

However, the court ruled that CSPI needed to file another petition with agency. CSPI’s latest legal filing with FDA requests that the FDA treat salt as a food ingredient for the purposes of regulation. This is in contrast to an ingredient that the agency has designated as “Generally Recognized As Safe” (GRAS). The agency has greater authority to regulate food ingredients, including the ability to set upper limits and require special labeling. CSPI requested that the agency set higher limits for salt in different categories of processed foods and lower the Daily Value (or DV) for individuals who consume between 2,400 and 1,500 mg of sodium each day. 2005 reiterated its conclusion that sodium has a detrimental effect on cardiovascular disease. CSPI’s current FDA petition was also sent to Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt.

The cover note included support from organizations such as the American Nurses Association and the American Public Health Association. It also included a note of support from the American College of Preventive Medicine and the International Society on Hypertension among Blacks. Dr. Carlos Camargo of Harvard Medical School and Dr. Steve Havas of University of Maryland Medical School signed the letter. Dr. Jeremiah Stamler of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Professor Myron H. Weinberger of Indiana University School of Medicine and Dr. Jackson T. Wright of University Hospitals of Cleveland were also among the prominent researchers and physicians who signed the letter. 2006-The American Medical Association (AMA), a group of doctors from the United States, joined the fight against salt in June 2006.

Research

They are now asking the FDA to remove salt from the ‘generally recognised as safe’ (GRAS), and to create regulatory measures to limit sodium intake in processed and restaurant food. Michael F. Jacobson, executive director of CSPI. Holistic salt is a natural salt that has not been chemically altered or refined. Many people believe that sea salt is healthier than table salt. However, this is not true. The oceans are being used to dump toxic poisons such as mercury, PCBs, and dioxin. More reports of oil spillages polluting the ocean are coming out every day. Today’s sea salt isn’t as healthy today as it was. 89% of all sea salt producers are now refining their salt. Sea salt is characterized by crystalline structures that are isolated and not connected to the natural elements. If sea salt were examined under a microscope, you would see these structures.

Even though sea salt may contain vital minerals, it cannot be absorbed by the body without a lot of energy. The net gain to your body is negligible compared with the huge loss of energy. Poor sources of salt include mined salt or rock salt. Natural rock salt is less valuable than industrial table salt in terms of biophysical and bio-chemical aspects. However, it is close to being holistically intact. Rock salt contains elements that are not compressed enough to be included in crystal webs. They are only attached to the surface of the crystalline structure. The pressure is what brings the elements to a colloidal form – where your cells can easily absorb them. Your body is unable to absorb or metabolize the valuable elements in rock salt. This salt is over 250 million years old. It is the highest quality, purest and most pure natural salt on earth. It is also free from any pollutants or toxins. This salt is mined manually and washed manually. It is also known as “white gold” due to its high level of stored sunlight.
