Gout is a condition in which uric acid builds up in the bloodstream and then crystallizes in joints. Purine is believed to be the primary root substance which is converted into uric acids in the bloodstream.

Purine will be metabolized in a healthy person and will not remain in the bloodstream for long periods of time. High levels of purine in unhealthy people can lead to uric acid buildup.
