How to prevent Uric Acid Crystals?

Urine crystals containing uric acid can indicate gout. If they build up in the kidneys, they can become kidney stones. This article will explain how urate crystals form and what you can do to prevent them from causing pain and health problems. Uric acid is a mixture of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen. It is naturally formed in our bodies by the breakdown of chemical compounds known as ‘purines’ that are found in our bodies and in our foods. Normal conditions allow your body to process this acid and expel excess via urine and stool.

Kidneys Health

If your kidneys are not working efficiently or your body is producing too many uric acid, your body may not be able to excrete enough through urine. Hyperuricemia can lead to microscopic crystals (or uric acid crystals) forming in the joints and tissue. This can cause gout. These uric acid crystals can also be found in the urine, as the body attempts to eliminate them. Some crystals can clog the kidneys, causing painful kidney stones.

While prescription drugs can be used to treat this condition, more people suffering from gout are looking for natural ways to reduce their levels of urate crystals and prevent them from forming. Drinking lots of water, at minimum 2.5 litres per daily, is one of the best ways to reduce uric acid levels. This will help your kidneys do their job, which is to eliminate uric acid and excrete crystals through urine. Vitamin C has been shown to help with acid excretion and lower blood levels.

Supplementation

Supplementation is an option. You might start with 1.0 grams per day. Talk to your doctor. Baking soda can dissolve uric acids crystals in a drink and can increase the solubility of the acid to help the body flush it out more easily. Half a teaspoon of baking soda in an 8-ounce glass water. Take one glass of the mixture in the morning and one at night. Limit your intake to six glasses per day.

You should not use this if you are experiencing an attack. Once gout symptoms subside, stop using this remedy. This remedy is high in sodium so you should avoid salt. If you have high blood pressure, don’t use it. You should always consult your doctor to determine if this is right for you. These are the three natural methods to prevent uric acids crystals from forming in your urine.
