To get rid of gout, you must lower your uric acid level. And the best way to lower high uric acid is to improve our diet. It is very important to eliminate foods that raise uric acid and introduce others that are healthier for the body. The first thing to do is to avoid foods rich in purines.

Foods to lower uric acid

To lower high uric acid, we must always keep the body well hydrated. Drink between 1.5 and 2 litres of water a day to stimulate kidney function, as the purines that raise uric acid are eliminated through urine. In addition to drinking water, we can also consume green tea or dandelion. Meat and fish that can be eaten to lower uric acid include chicken, turkey, rabbit, sole, John Dory, hake and fresh cod. In other words, all low-fat white meats and fish.

Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruit are ideal for lowering high uric acid. But other fruits such as cherries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, apples, grapes and bananas are also good for lowering uric acid levels. Raw or roasted (but not fried) nuts, dairy products and vegetables such as celery, cauliflower, leeks and green beans are also very beneficial in this respect.

Dairy products should include skimmed milk, low-fat yoghurts that do not contain cream and non-fatty cheeses. In addition, olive and seed oils such as sunflower or corn oil should be included, but no fats such as lard, butter or cream.

Organic seeds are also very good for lowering uric acid levels. Flax, alfalfa and barley seeds are rich in protein, phosphorus and magnesium, as are flaxseed, chia or horsetail. All of these should be included in our diet if we have problems with high uric acid.

Cherry juice is also a great alternative to reduce uric acid and prevent gout attacks.

Celery extract has been found to be one of the most effective natural ingredients for combating pain associated with diseases such as gout and rheumatism. Specifically, celery seeds have been found to have the ability to reduce uric acid levels in the blood, as well as offering a potent anti-inflammatory effect. To try this home remedy, buy celery seeds from an herbalist, boil them in water until soft, strain the mixture and drink a cup.

A preparation of baking soda and water

An excellent home remedy for lowering high uric acid levels is to prepare a mixture of baking soda and water. Just add a small spoonful of baking soda to half a glass of water and that’s it. Ideally, you should drink eight glasses a day with this preparation. However, on the days that we take it, we must follow a low-salt diet, as the bicarbonate contains sodium.

Foods that produce uric acid

There are several foods that increase uric acid or that we should not eat if we suffer from this problem.

Offal (liver, heart and kidneys), fresh and canned seafood, oily fish (salmon, tuna or sardines) and red meat (beef, pork, beef or lamb) are forbidden foods for uric acid. If we have too much uric acid, we should not include too much in our diet.

The same applies to pulses, whether fresh or dried, spinach, green leafy vegetables, asparagus, mushrooms, leeks, mushrooms and alcoholic beverages such as beer. Nor should we eat fatty sausages such as chorizo or sausages.

With high uric acid, we must control the consumption of foods such as coffee, industrial pastries, dehydrated foods such as sachet soups and cereals and products made from them.

What is gout?

Gout is a condition caused by an excess of uric acid in the blood, itself caused by the precipitation (= formation) of urate crystals in the cartilage. This accumulation causes severe joint inflammation. If left untreated, gout attacks escalate and eventually affect more and more joints.

What is the primary cause of gout?

Gout is caused by the improper breakdown of substances called purines. These are located in the nucleus of cells, then released when the cells themselves are destroyed. The purines are then transformed into uric acid, which can take the form of urate crystals. When a large number of cells break down, massive quantities of purines are released, uric acid levels soar and a gout attack is triggered. This cell fragility is typical of certain diseases, such as leukaemia or psoriasis, or their treatment, but can also be a side-effect of chemotherapy, for example.

That said, sometimes all it takes is a stressful event to cause a sudden increase in cell destruction. Uric acid can also increase in the body as a result of poor elimination, e.g. kidney failure. This is known as secondary gout. Primary gout is genetically programmed: it is caused by a faulty synthesis of certain enzymes. A large number of enzymes may be involved. One of them has been identified since it is known to be absent in children suffering from Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. These young patients suffer from gout attacks from an early age.

What factors influence blood uric values?

Gender: men suffer from hyperuricaemia 5 times more than women.

Age: uric acid levels in the blood increase with age. Hyperuricemia-related illnesses are therefore more likely to occur in men between 40 and 60 and in women in the menopause.

Weight: there is a causal relationship between gout and obesity. Dieting lowers blood uric acid levels, whereas fasting is unhealthy and leads to reduced uric acid excretion and a consequent increase in blood uric acid levels.

Diet: certain foods contain purines, the building blocks of uric acid, and should therefore be avoided: fatty foods, game, poultry, cold meats, shellfish and lobster, certain fish such as herring, anchovies, sardines and sprats, certain vegetables such as lentils, peas and beans, and especially meat from organs such as the liver, kidney and brain.

Alcohol: Alcohol abuse increases the level of uric acid in the blood and can even cause a gout attack. In patients suffering from gout, abstinence allows a huge drop in the uricemia value.

Medication: Certain medications, such as diuretics, can increase uricemia levels.

What conditions are associated with hyperuricaemia?

High levels of uric acid in the body are often due to obesity, high blood pressure or atherosclerosis. The harmful effects of uricaemia reinforce these risk factors. As a result, the risk of hyperlipidaemia, diabetes, high blood pressure and atherosclerosis increases considerably.

How is a gout attack treated?

Unlike other acute rheumatic conditions, gout is easy to treat. In the event of an attack, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is administered as the first line of treatment, which normally brings the attack to an end within five days. If this is not enough, it is not gout. Colchicine, a specific anti-inflammatory drug, is sometimes also prescribed.

    I have been suffering with at times excruciating pain down my shoulders into my arms and hands. Occasionally I get pain in my knees. I am newly diagnosed with OA, but I have not been prescribed any medication – For pain or otherwise. I was desperate and researched otc products when I came Boswellia and Turmeric. I have been faithfully taking it exactly as stated and after about 2 weeks I noticed the pain was not as intense. I cannot say for sure this Fyron G1+G2 is a miracle supplement, however I have had more days with tolerable pain than I had last month. I plan on continuing to take it. Give it a try if you feel desperate like I did.

    There was an ad on internet regarding these Fyron G1+G2, I decided to try it for the pain in my knees. I’ve gotten good results. The only drawback for me is that it is a little pricey. I have purchased these Fyron G1+G2 twice because it works. It arrived on time as promised and in good condition.
