How to avoid Gout?

Gout and food can be dangerous together. Gout can be caused by eating the wrong foods. This can cause a painful attack that can last hours, days, and even weeks. Gout can strike at any time. Gout attacks can be triggered by what you eat or drink. You can reduce your chances of getting this painful condition by avoiding or limiting certain foods and beverages. Gout sufferers should limit or avoid foods that contain purine. Gout is caused when the joints become swollen.

Uric Acid

A waste product called uric acids is formed when purines, substances found in certain foods and naturally produced by your body, are broken down. This by-product can build up in your joints if your body produces too much or isn’t able to eliminate enough. Gout can result, along with all the pain and inflammation that goes with it. Purine is found in most foods. Consuming foods high in purine can increase the amount of uric acids in your body and cause gout attacks. Organ meats like the liver and kidney.

Protein-rich foods like pork roast, poultry and roast beef. Vegetables such as spinach, cauliflower, lentils and mushrooms. Whole grain breads, cereals, and oatmeal. Limit your intake of lean meat, poultry, and fish to 5-6 ounces per day. Gout attacks can be severe so you might consider cutting back on protein intake. Limiting your intake of purine-rich foods to one per day will also help. You might not want to eat spinach for dinner if you eat oatmeal for breakfast. Gout sufferers should limit or avoid alcohol.

Gout sufferers should avoid alcohol. Your body produces more uric acid from alcohol than you think. Gout attacks can be avoided by limiting your intake of alcohol to one drink per day. This is especially true if you are drinking beer, which has more purine than wine or spirits. Avoid alcohol if you are suffering from gout attacks. Gout sufferers need to drink lots of fluids. Gout sufferers who drink a lot of water daily have many health benefits. Water can flush out uric acid. Drinking lots of water can also help prevent dehydration that can lead to gout attacks.
