Why to drink Citrus Juices for Gout?

Gout treatments are a welcome option for many gout sufferers. Gout attacks the wrists, elbows and toes of sufferers as well as other parts of their body. Gout can cause pain that varies in severity. The causes of gout are still being studied and the results are not conclusive. Gout is caused by excess Uric Acid in the kidneys. In 2003, 12 Spanish youths were subject to a study that involved orange juice given at different times. The results of the study showed that orange juice significantly reduced uric acid levels.

Gout

Gout can be defeated by aggressively reducing your body’s uric acid levels. Orange juice is a good source of Vitamin C. Most people are aware of this fact. However, they don’t know how much orange juice can increase their vitamin C levels and how long it takes for this to happen in their bodies. The study showed how much orange juice raises blood vitamin levels and the rate it does so. Six men and six women each drank two glasses orange juice on the first day. For the next two weeks, they continued to drink orange juice daily, one glass each morning and one glass at night.

They were able to get 500 ml of vitamin C each day from this exercise. This is twice the daily requirement. Each person received 250 mg more vitamin C each day. The men received 386mg of vitamin C, while the women received 362mg. Gout sufferers were pleased to hear the results. After two weeks of testing, the men saw a decrease in their uric acids levels by approximately 12.5% and the women by 6.5%.

Uric Acid Level

The baseline uric acid level testing for women was lower than that of the men. Each participant had significantly reduced their UA levels by the end of the study. Research on gout remedies and causes is still ongoing. Considering that the study was only two weeks long and the extra vitamin C was 250mg per day, the Uric acid reductions were impressive. The study suggests that gout attacks would be prevented if the subjects continued to drink orange juice for six months or longer. The juice could be absorbed for longer periods of time, which could lead to better results. These were healthy youths aged between 20-32 years. The results may be different if you have gout. These reductions in uric acids would be lower if you are taking medication.

Oranges testing would not be useful for people with gout at normal levels or slightly above UA levels. Orange juice is not a drug medication, however. Researchers are not sure why vitamin C reduced uric acid levels. One theory is that Vitamin C stimulated kidneys to produce more uric acid. Orange juice contains a high amount of potassium, which has an alkalizing action on minerals and raises the pH or Alkaline levels in your body. This is why gout problems are lessened by the combination of vitamin C and potassium.

Conclusion

Gout sufferers will be pleased to know that orange juice contains certain flavonoids, which aid Vitamin C’s absorption and retention. These flavonoids are not found in many vitamin C dietary supplements, or they are not sufficient. However, some do. This study used fresh squeezed orange juice. This is the juice from fresh, raw oranges. It was not made from orange juice concentrate.

It is interesting that Vitamin C in fresh juice can lose its effectiveness over time. It is best to make fresh orange juice from scratch and drink it immediately. It will lose its potency faster if it is left open or exposed after you squeeze it. It is better to take 500mg vitamin C each day. Orange juice can be used to treat gout. Gout treatment can also be achieved by drinking lots of water. Gout causes are still being investigated. You may find a solution to your problem in the resource box.
