Are there Alternative Gout Treatments?

Natural remedies are still an effective and valuable option. Gout can be a phenomenon that causes an underlying’sudden sickness’ effect. Gout is a syndrome that is caused by uric acid crystals. These crystals can be found in the kidneys, joints, and skin. Gout is “fully manifested” when your blood levels of uric acid reach a certain saturation point. This is when crystallization begins to occur, which is marked with a massive increase in pain. Gout can affect the large toe first.

Purines

Purines are substances that are found in food (meats, fish, and vegetation) and which during digestion metabolize quickly into uric acid. This can cause uric acids levels to rise to dangerous levels, which can lead to gout flares or full attacks. Red meat, liver, peas and shellfish are all foods that contain high levels of purine. Uric acid formations can also be triggered by other foods like sardines in oil and anchovies, mushrooms and asparagus.

Gout can also be caused by excessive alcohol intake, such as beer (because of its yeast content), or binge drinking. Gout management strategies must include a strategy that removes high-purine foods from the diet and adds lower-purine foods.

Natural Treatment

A strategy of “gout natural treatment” is another option. This would include eating foods that lower your uric acid. These foods could be classified as low purine foods or high alkaline foods.

  • “Cherries”- Having at least 25 fresh cherries per day can make a difference. Cherries are rich in anthocyanins, a naturally occurring chemical compound. Researchers believe this compound is effective against inflammation. This property has been shown to be effective in fighting gout and other inflammation disorders.
  • Lemon juice can also help prevent gout. Vitamin C helps to strengthen the body’s tissues, and relieves joint discomfort. A daily intake of one apple helps lower uric acid levels.
  • Malic acid in apples counteracts the uric acid’s agonizing effects.
  • Hydration is another important factor. It is important to ensure you drink plenty of water. Your body will break down uric acid by drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day.

Uric Acid

Uric acid is also eliminated by urine excretion. Aim to maintain a healthy weight and a low body mass index (BMI). Gout can be caused by excess body fat (high BMI). Talk to your doctor about the ideal weight for your height and age. Hyon K. Choi MD, DrPH of Massachusetts General Hospital and his colleagues collected data over more than 47,000 middle-aged males over 12 years. Gout risk is higher for men who are overweight.

Over the course of the study, those who lost weight saw a decrease in their risk of developing gout. Weight control can be achieved through diet and food restriction. A healthy level of physical exercise is an important part of any weight control strategy. Combining the two options would make it easier to control weight.

Remember

Natural elements, vitamins, and minerals are the last group of factors to be considered. These elements can be found in the natural form of certain basic foods such as celery, ginger and garlic, or the basic elements/minerals such as potassium, magnesium, vitamin E and vitamin C. Niacin is the only exception. These natural elements, vitamins, and minerals can also be purchased in ‘extracted form’ from health shops/suppliers.
