General information

Curcumin (diferuloylmethane), a polyphenolic color, is part of the curcuminoid group. It is a fat-soluble (soluble in oil) pigment and soluble with ethanol. It comes from the roots and leaves of turmeric, also known by the name ‘turmeric’. This stable molecule is extremely resistant to heat, and it is used in cooking with one of the most well-known spices: turmeric. Turmeric is yellow in colour. Turmeric can also be used as an ingredient in natural food colouring agents (E100). It can be taken as a food supplement or as a turmeric-based food supplement.

Curcumin, like most curcuminoids, is not well absorbed by the body. This is a fact of nature.[1] It is often combined with piperine because of its low bioavailability. This is believed to increase the body’s absorption.[2] There is still some debate about the relationship between turmeric and pepper. The importance of omega 3 (fish oils) in curcumin absorption is being explored.

Curcumin can help prevent the development and progression of cancers and cardiovascular diseases. Curcumin is a great addition to antioxidant diets, which are good for long-term health. Curcumin may be able to block cell proliferation and angiogenesis at different stages of the development of various types of cancer.

Anti-inflammatory properties

Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound. The so-called “diferuloylmethane” is a great example of this compound. Curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory that derives its power through its natural antioxidant properties, is an excellent choice. This pigment blocks NF Kappa B (a transcription factors) and cyclooxygenase activities. Both play an important role in many inflammatory processes and are implicated in the inflammatory process.[4]

As early research in the 1970s showed, curcumin can lower blood sugar levels. These studies show that curcumin activates adenosine monophosphate kinase, which results in lower blood sugar levels.[5] Curcumin, in the same way, reduces inflammation and improves liver function as well as insulin resistance.[6]

The effects of the molecule upon the organs

Researchers are still intrigued by the many health benefits of curcumin, which has been the subject to numerous studies. Some studies show the positive effects of curcumin on the nervous system. This molecule preserves brain tissue’s omega 3 (DHA). It stimulates enzymes that are involved in the production of this fatty acid. DHA is essential for brain protection. It is also effective in preventing cognitive disorders such as anxiety, depression, and Alzheimer’s disease.[7]

Its impact on the cardiovascular health

Clinical trials have shown that curcumin protects cardiovascular health, especially heart tissue. It blocks the activity of protein 300, which is a histone acetyltransferase that promotes inflammation, heart disease, heart failure, and cardiac hypertrophy.[8] Curcumin supplementation also has been shown to improve blood pressure in postmenopausal females.

Is curcumin the same as turmeric?

Turmeric is composed of starch, essential oils and curcuminoids. Curcumin is the essential component of this last category. The manufacturers of food supplements have developed products hyperconcentrated in curcumin, approaching the pure curcumin.

Infuse 1 to 2 g of turmeric powder with 3 or 4 black peppercorns in 150 ml of boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink 2 cups per day. You can also boil a turmeric root for 3 minutes, then let the decoction infuse for 10 minutes. Drink 2 or 3 cups per day.

Zbilansowana dieta jest pierwszym środkiem zaradczym, który łagodzi te patologie. Polega ona na wyeliminowaniu z diety alkoholu, wędlin, większym udziale białego mięsa i warzyw. Zalecana jest również regularna aktywność fizyczna oraz obfite nawodnienie organizmu.

Podagra to rodzaj zapalenia stawów spowodowany nagromadzeniem kwasu moczowego w organizmie, albo dlatego, że organizm nie może się go skutecznie pozbyć, albo dlatego, że organizm wytwarza go w nadmiernej ilości.

Curcumin, extracted from turmeric, works as an antioxidant agent and improves metabolic health and kidney function in order to lower uric acid levels. Therefore, Curcumin's action helps lower uric acid levels and regulates the activity of proteins related to uric acid transport. It also increases uric acid excretion in the urine.

Curcumin is thus a functional ingredient that offers protection against fructose consumption and associated hyperuricemia, or increased uric acid levels.

When you have inflammation in a joint, your body produces inflammatory proteins (called cytokines) and a large number of them are controlled by a molecule called NF-κB. It’s like a plug that turns these genes on and off. Treating arthritis with corticosteroids and anti-inflammatory drugs inhibits NF-κB. Research shows that turmeric may have the same effect: it inhibits NF-κB and is turning off a lot of inflammatory molecules.

Czasami potrzeba 1 tygodnia, aby zmniejszyć 40-60% ulgę w bólu związanym z podagrą. Nie wspominając, że działanie kurkuminy stosuje się w sposób systemowy do zwalczania stanów zapalnych.

Czas trwania kuracji kurkumą jest bardzo zmienny, generalnie do momentu wyciszenia się stanu zapalnego. Jeśli masz przewlekły problem, musisz brać kurkumę przez dłuższy czas, kilka tygodni, potem, gdy stan zapalny zejdzie, możesz czasem zrobić przerwę i zacząć ponownie, gdy zobaczysz, że stan zapalny wraca. Ale w sumie mówimy o przyjmowaniu jej codziennie przez dłuższy czas. Można przy dużej dawce zrobić kurację kurkumą dość długą, do 3 miesięcy, po czym zrobić przerwę.

    I did not know that Curcumin is such a good natural plant for health. It is used as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant, antitumor, antifungal and antibacterial. It’s amazing all the benefits it has! I am sure that Curcumin will help me to fight against the chronic Gout that I have been suffering from for 3 years. Thank you for such a great article for those of us who suffer from this painful disease!
